Simple past tense setences

East-to-remember lesson on simple past tense

The simple past tense is used to describe actions or events that occurred and were completed in the past. It's formed by adding '-ed' to regular verbs or using irregular verb forms. This tense doesn't indicate the duration of an action, only that it happened at a specific point in the past. It's commonly used for actions that occurred at a definite time or period in the past, narrating a sequence of events, or when the time of the action is known or implied. For instance, "She walked to the park yesterday," "They visited Paris last summer," or "He studied French in college." Regular verbs follow a pattern to form the simple past, while irregular verbs have unique past tense forms.

Changing into interrogative

Did +Subject  + verb 1st form + object

Did     I                see              a movie yesterday?

Did   we              play            tennis?

NOTE: When we change simple past tense into interrogative or negative, verb  2nd form becomes 1st form. Because the helping verb DID already has the meaning of 2nd form.

CHANING INTO NEGATIVE: FORMULA

Subject                + did not + verb 1st form + object.
